Employment in Melbourne

Investment Management (all asset classes). For each of these there was no shortage of talent at the Investment DirectorInvestment Manager or Analyst levels for them to consider, with a healthy candidate pool being generated from PE (local or offshore candidates returning) and from the investment banking or consulting community for the junior roles. Equities: The majority of new funds setting up have been in the global equities space or for Australian funds that now have a mandate to invest globally. We expect to see a continued interest from candidates, particularly at VP smooth and above looking for a move across to corporate roles. Whilst there is quiet powerful outflow of Investment Banking Analyst and Associate level candidates looking to make the move to purchase side’ roles (private equity, notable situations, funds management, corporate), there isn’t necessarily the equivalent number of roles being replaced by the banks except for critical hires in ambitious teams (mainly Infrastructure and Utilities due to deal environment and work intensity of work). On the Investment and Corporate Banking side there has been a resurgence of candidates moving internationally and the banks supporting senior analysts with these moves to ensure that they can retain grasp of talent within the bank itself. Have seen an increase in interest from candidates looking to move to venture capital growth investment funds which is being driven by the number of funds and amount of capital seemingly in the local market to encourage these. Global Equities: hiring continued in this asset class both in the industry fund and fund management space. The Private Equity and Infrastructure markets have seen a range of senior and junior glossy hires this year.
