Before and after the Second World War the company published many of the world's leading extreme intellectuals, which has ensured Allen unpin's continuing reputation throughout the English speaking world. 1976 In 1976 Patrick Gallagher arrived from the UK to set up an Australian arm of Allen unpin, concentrating initially on building a list of books along the lines of the UK publishing program, principally in the social sciences and general nonfiction. In that year the company also moved from a purely publishing base to taking on distribution of the UK company's titles. 1997 In 1997 the CBC Picture Book of the Year was awarded to Not a Nibble! Also that year, Allen unpin expanded its local publishing program with the launch of three new Australian imprints: Arena, a fresh commercial untruth and nonfiction imprint Inspired Living, dedicated to publishing in the area of Comply Body Spirit and Jacana, a instinctive history imprint. 2010 For the ninth time in the nineteen year history of the award Allen unpin is voted Publisher of the Year by Australian booksellers. 2011 For the tenth time in the twenty year history of the award Allen unpin is voted Publisher of the Year by Australian booksellers. 2016 Allen and unpin is voted Publisher of the Year for a record breaking thirteenth time. Allen unpin environmental activities In premature 2006 (we were on the case prior the free of the Stringent report!) Allen unpin set out to diminish its environmental 'footprint'. Altering the thermostat to keep energy in our kitchens. Alerting staff to the energy empty from computers, printers and monitors left on standby and asking them to switch off fully each night. Encouraging staff to reduce office printing and to use electronic forms of communication where possible. Our Melbourne office has built a bike rack to encourage more staff members to ride their bikes to work.
